Islamic
Relief
is
actively
involved
in
Balochistan
since
2001
assisting
local
communities
affected
by
drought
and
floods
to
gain
normalcy
to
lead
better
lives.
Currently
various
projects
are
ongoing
such
as;
water
&
sanitation
schemes
(water
pumps,
wind
mills
to
provide
water
for
drinking
purposes),
Karez
rehabilitation,
agricultural
activities,
health
centers
including
disaster
preparedness
activities
in
collaboration
with
the
Government
departments
and
other
Agencies.
The
recent
floods
have
unfortunately
disrupted
these
activities.
Nevertheless,
Islamic
Relief
has
been
able
to
continue
assist
thousands
of
affected
people/households.
Assistance
has
been
provided
through
provisions
of
food
and
non-food
items
including
tents,
plastic
sheets,
and
household
items
(kitchen
utensils)
throughout
affected
parts
of
Kharan
and
Chaghi
districts.
Top
cricketer
Shahid
Afridi
has
also
joined
hands
with
Islamic
Relief
in
its
efforts
to
alleviate
poverty
in
Balochistan
and
to
help
the
victims
of
the
Floods.
“I
have
just
undertaken
a
tour
of
the
areas
of
Balochistan,
affected
by
floods.
We
were
moved
by
the
touching
scenes
that
we
witnessed
over
there.
I
believe
it
is
our
responsibility
to
come
to
the
rescue
of
those
people
who
have
lost
their
dear
ones,
their
homes
and
their
livelihood”
said
Shahid
Afridi.
Sanaullah
(11)
son
of
Abdul
Latif
is a
resident
of
Killi
Gull
Mohammad.
He
has
one
brother
and
one
sister.
Sanaullah
and
his
family
are
one
of
the
victims
of
the
recent
flood
as
they
lost
their
house,
all
that
was
left
the
ruins
of
their
house.
When
Islamic
Relief
team
reached
in
the
village,
the
innocent
and
cute
Sanaullah
was
sitting
on a
pillow
in
open
sky,
it
was
extremely
hot.
When
he
was
asked
why
was
he
sitting
there
as
it
is
hot
and
there
is
nothing
but
just
ruins
he
replied
“It
is
my
home
which
is
destroyed,
now
where
should
I
go”.
He
further
said
that
“flood
has
destroyed
every
thing,
(Houses,
Ration,
Crops
and
other
assets)
now
there
is
nothing
left
for
us”.
In
response
to a
question
he
was
asked
whether
he
goes
to
school
he
replied
“I
have
never
been
to
school
because
there
is
no
school
in
our
village,
but
I
want
to
study”.
Sanaullah
and
his
family
requested
to
reconstruct
their
home
and
rehabilitate
their
livelihood.
Islamic
Relief
is
also
making
arrangements
to
help
more
than
3,400
Families
(27,000
individuals)
in
Jaffarabad
and
Kharan
by
providing
them
IFRC’s
standard
shelter
kit
(bamboos,
plastic
sheets
etc).
Plans
are
also
in
final
stages
to
provide
more
than
1,820
households
(14,560
individuals)
with
shelter
kit,
hygiene
kits
and
kitchen
utensils.
Around
2000
pit
latrines
will
also
be
constructed
to
ensure
better
hygiene
conditions
in
the
affected
areas
and
for
prevention
of
different
waterborne
diseases.
