Islamic Relief launched a five-year programme; NVIDP in 2001 in order to reduce the vulnerability of people living in one of the poorest areas in AJ&K, which is also, prone to disaster. NVIDP is being implemented through broad-based participatory community organisations and comprises of the following components:

Neelum Valley and Forward Kahuta are the worst affected areas in AJ&K due to Mines, UXOs and firing along the line of control. Islamic Relief through its disaster preparedness progarmme came to the conclusion that an exclusive project on Mines and UXOs awareness needed. As a response, IRP started Mine Risk Education in Kashmir (MREK) project in Neelum Valley and Forward Kahuta in AJ&K in partnership with the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) from Manchester, UK.
 

To educate the communities of these areas about the danger of Mines and UXOs and how to tackle with them.
