Islamic Relief supports a visually impaired child

Islamic Relief’s Child Welfare Programme (CWP) has been carrying out One to One (OTO) Orphans Sponsorship both in rural and urban areas of Pakistan & AJK. OTO is Islamic Relief’s vivid imagination and aims to assist the children from families with low income.

Since 1993, around 900 orphans have been benefited from this programme. Currently 2,448 orphans are directly under OTO sponsorship. During the course of time, OTO had displayed many success stories as it completes thirteen years of operations in Pakistan.

Such is a story of visually impaired Shanza Tanvir, a sponsored child of class IV. Shanza’s mother told that she was a widow and spending a depressed life as out of her five children, three are facing eye blindness and Shanza is one of them. “It is painful that my two daughters and a son is blind. It’s very challenging to look after them in the time of price hike”.

According to Shanza’s mother, Islamic Relief team visited her home during their routine survey and after data collection, “We were given the unique opportunity to get sponsorship for Shanza’s education. Now it is a time of change for Shanza, a time of growth and a time of acceptance. It is time to get on with making Shanza's life full of pleasure”.

While talking to Islamic Relief Pakistan (IRP) staff, Shanza said that she wants to become a teacher to educate the special children. “I can’t see but I have never complained because I have got a vision to spread the light of education. To do this, I have to get better education and I will be a responsible citizen to bring a positive change in the lives of special children”, Shanza said.
