Islamic Relief launched a five-year programme; NVIDP in 2001 in order to reduce the vulnerability of people living in one of the poorest areas in AJ&K, which is also, prone to disaster. NVIDP is being implemented through broad-based participatory community organisations and comprises of the following components:

Project Location : Neelum Valley, District Muzaffarabad, AJK
Beneficiaries : 17,500 Population
   

Neelum Valley is one of the worst affected areas from firing along the line of control (LoC). The civilian population has been suffering tremendous hardships as a result of LoC firing.
Islamic Relief started its work in Neelum Valley in 1998 through distribution of relief items to the people affected by firing. Being a disaster prone area there was a dire need to work on preparedness
 

To reduce the vulnerability of the population affected by LoC firing through improved preparedness. 
Training the Community in First Aid, Fire Fighting, Mines/UXO awareness etc
Establishment of Emergency Response Units at the Community level
Establishment of  Emergency Medical Centres
Construction of Protection Shelters
Preparation of Evacuation Plans
