In Pakistani
society men usually provide
financial support for the
family. Death of a Husband
usually makes the family (widow
and children) very vulnerable. A
sudden loss of livelihoods
brings tremendous hardship and
suffering for the orphan and
his/her mother. Poor mothers in
most cases have to work as
housemaids from morning till
night. What they and their
children are able to earn is not
enough to fulfill the family
basic needs.
Through this programme Islamic
Relief collects data of
deserving orphans and tries to
find a sponsor for them. The
orphans who are being sponsored
through Islamic Relief are
living with their guardians.
Sponsorship money is used to
fulfill educational and other
essential needs of the children.
Islamic Relief also organises
annual training camps for these
children to build their
confidence. At present a total
of 862 orphans are being
sponsored in Pakistan and AJ&K.
