Establishment of IR welfare eye hospital in a slum area (with congested poor population) of District Rawalpindi namely “Khayaban-e-Sir Sayyed during the first quarter of 2006.
School screening programme to provide refractive services (standard procedure for testing defective vision correctable with glasses and provision of spectacle prescription/free glasses) in the slum areas of District Rawalpindi
Organizing one day screening camps within and in the surrounding areas of District Rawalpindi to provide at the spot treatment for common eye ailments and surgical treatment of those selected for cataract surgery in the IR eye hospital in Khayaban
Primary Eye Care (PEC) training workshops for Primary Health Care (PHC) staff working at rural level

to create strong linkages with other stake holders in public & private sectors to jointly support the above mentioned community based eye care activities and in turn achieving the goals of “Vision 2020”, the Right to Sight.

Prevention of Blindness Programme Needs Your Support!

Islamic Relief (IR) through its Prevention of Blindness (POB) programme is committed to providing eye care and treatment mainly to the under privileged and poor. Islamic Relief has been providing so far 100% free of cost services to all the beneficiaries. As evident from the above mentioned plans, Al-Hamdulillah! the spectrum of POB programme is now getting broader and broader. Hence, IR with its limited resources and budgetary constraints needs support from other donor agencies or philanthropists in the form of zakat, Sadaqat or Atiyat to accomplish the future plans.

Your contribution means the gift of sight for someone in need!

A donation of 50 $ or Rs. 3000 will help to restore the eyesight of a poor patient with cataract
The cost of one cataract screening camp ranges from Rs.15,000 to 20,000 (depending upon the logistical cost)
The cost of one school screening visit along with provision of free glasses ranges from Rs. 8,000 – 10,000
The cost required for establishing a comprehensive eye care cell in an underprivileged area (including 2 years recurrent cost) along with a network of community based services, component (please see the map on the next page) is approximately 350,000 US $ or Rs. 21,000,000
